I'm sure I know the real answer to this question but I'll ask to see what you say. Why do you just want the neck or the title? Wait...I'll share my answer. Stolen bike you want to put different numbers on right?

I thought most people do it to turn their salvage bike clean. At least thats what I'm doing. I need a whole frame but I can't find one with lower mileage thats clean

you would not be turning your salvage bike clean you would be REBUILDING a TOTALLY DIFFERENT BIKE

i dont care what you are doing thats your business..... just know its not going to work ..
ur better off going through your state's salvage inspection proceedures if they have them .. and own a bike with a branded title.. its no big deal really .. and at least at the end of the day you will be LEGIT ya know

Yeah I'm just trying to find anything at this point. I'll keep looking though. If I get blank frame anyway my state just issues its on VIN and titles it as Assembled. I would rather a clean frame but if I can't find one in the next 2 weeks I'll settle for an assembled title.

if u buy a blank frame from dealer then u cut the neck from ur damaged frame, have numbers stamped in new frame. turn neck into dmv. The way you are explaining it and going about it sounds shady.

Not from the dealer. If I buy a blank frame from the dealer they stamp it for me. I was going to get a blank frame off eBay and have my DMV stamp it with a VIN.

dmv usually WONT .. and will ask where you got it .. you NEED THE PAPER work
thats what you are not seeing .. the paperwork is what adds to the cost of the frame
go to the dealer .. buy a frame(blank no vin) for 1500-1800 and do it legit .. ull be better off

My state does it. As long as you have a bill of sale. I already asked. And frames are $2,700 from the dealer.

Its MUCH cheaper to go through salvage inspection process then buy a clean title neck or clean title frame or whatever the case might be.

Whats the difference where u buy it? Where is your damaged frame and title? if u have your title the buy a blank frame and get it stamped. you wilL have to cuT the neck from your damaged frame and turn it in to the dmv. that assures them that there is only 1 legal bike and vin

plus who wants to ride a bike that had a neck cut off and another neck welded back on

Difference is $2,700 from the dealer vs less than a $1,000 elsewhere.

I wasn't going to weld the neck on to the new frame. Just get it stamped with the neck VIN on the neck and keep the neck.

Is your current frame broken at the neck or ??

My frame is worthless. So I was going to either buy a clean frame, buy a blank frame and get the VIN and paperwork separately for it which would have to include buying a neck and title from a messed up frame, or if I don't get the VIN from a bike I can have the DMV issue me a new VIN.

No and No, but thats what mechanics are for.

Cracks and bends. Looks like the person was riding and lost control and the bike fell over on the right side.

where do you live?
you do know on top of everything else the average mechanic is going to charge you by the book 20 hours labor at about 100-125 per hour ..

Michigan. Yeah I know but my bike is already at a mechanics. He's cool though on prices. He charged me a hundred to take the frame out and he's letting me keep it there until riding season.

Yeah if I took it to a dealer mechanic it would have to be a good $1000 or more on labor. I'm going to call tomorrow just for kicks and ask. Your helping me quite a bit, you must feel sorry for me. lol
toptaz1000rr
02-18-2009, 09:30 PM
no .. has nothing to do with feeling sorry for you .. just alot of people come on and dont know what they are doing or what canof worms they are opening ..
toptaz1000rr
02-18-2009, 09:32 PM
personally when i take on a frame swap i charge a flat 600-750 labor on and off...depending on how wrecked the origional bike is ... PLUS wahtever added/extra parts need to be ordered (to replace /fix/ get it road worthy)
Blackgt76
02-18-2009, 09:43 PM
I hope this is not the case but it sounds like one of those bikes that is going to sit around mechanics shop for a long time.
Good luck with it.
toptaz1000rr
02-18-2009, 09:50 PM
i hope not either ... i had a customer that had issues bike sat in my place for almost 6 mths... hence why when its a big job like that.. all labor is pre paid and after x time ... bike is leined or a call is made and pushed outside come get it as is ...
sometimes you have to take a hard stance once in a while lol

Well its not going to be touched till mid March anyway cause he's out to Florida working. But it's 34 degrees right now and its going to stay that way until mid April so I could care less, that gives me more time to make some money for some mods. Riding season doesn't start until May here.

Wow. 20 hrs to do what Suzuki pays mechanics 5.5 hrs to do.
an 05/06 GSXR1000 with a cracked frame in the recall, will be paid for a 5.5 hr re-frame.
