I develop new polyurethane systems for coatings and foams as a profession. Recently I finished developing and testing a new 2 component, hand applied coating made from "Polyaspartic Polyurea" chemistry. It is our first system like this, but the same base chemicals have been used for a couple years by others. You can search the net for info on "polyaspatic polyurea". Its primary application is as a concrete floor covering and competes directly with epoxy. It has several advantages over the standard epoxies currently used. The first is it is extremely stable against UV light. It wont yellow or fade like epoxies do. The second is that it can be completely applied in one day, walked on after a couple hours and driven on the next day. It has excellent resistance to common garage/household chemicals like gas, oil, brake fluid etc...

In developing and testing this system I have installed a couple thousand square feet in our plant. We have recently begun selling this and I helped/trained a customer install it in a couple of garages. If you call HD or Lowes they will charge $6-7 a square foot for a lower performing epoxy.

In an effort to get some $$$ for racing and help my fellow racers, I am offering to install a high performance coating for $5 a square foot for a "chipped" system. That price includes professional grinding and preperation of the floor, a urethane primer layer, ~12-15 mils DFT of a colored Polyaspartic Polyurea coating, broadcasting high quality (UV stable) chips, and ~8-10mils of a UV stable Polyaspartic Polyurea clear coat. My supplier has over 30 colors of chips, so you can pick whatever color or blend you want. I can also do the coating without any chips for a little more(more work for the glossy finish). It is VERY glossy, but also VERY slippery when wet. I dont recommend it for a garage or industrial surface. I can also do colored quartz grains for a very high level of anti skid.

I am looking at doing this as a side job on weekends and such right now. I cant say I have been in business for years, but I will stand behind my system and my installation. I am attaching a couple pics from a garage in our Gray system, as well as some sample blocks in our Honey Tan. I should have a couple more colors finalized before the years end.

You can PM any questions thru the board or call my cell, 404-375-4773. I am in Woodstock but will install anywhere in the greater ATL area.

Thanks,
Dan De Bry

Can you sell the materials any cheaper than what I can get at Home Depot and let us do it ourselves for those of us not in the ATL.

Sorry, but unfortunately the materials are more than what they sell for at HD. The liquids alone at retail are ~$900 for an average 2 car garage.
Its not rocket science to mix and apply this stuff, but it does help to have some experience. I havent seen anyone selling this type of coating retail yet, only to "applicators".

Edit: are you around Clemson somewhere??

So the chipped has good traction and the gloss doesn't? Hmmm, I might have to measure my garage and get back to you...

Yeah, the chips create some "texture" so you have some antiskid. The glossy is Ok when its dry, spill something and its very slick.

I was planning on stopping by at lunch to finally renew my license this week anyhow. I keep forgetting, plus I need to find a credit slip I have. I can bring some small samples if you want to see what it feels like.

Eh, I trust ya :D It'll be a while before we can do something like this but it's definitely good to know. I'll keep my ears open for anyone else interested too.
