This is the ultimate in cheap tow vehicles. I bought it a couple of years ago in AZ...not a molecule of rust on it. The guy who owned it owns a moving company and had all maint. done as part of his fleet service. Whenever it needed anything, it got it immediately. For example, at 80,000 miles (I bought it at about 100k), the rear end developed a hum, so he brought it in and had them put a brand new factory rear end in it, along with new axles and everything. he bought it as a grocery getter for his wife to drive instead of a minivan, just in case they ever wanted to tow anything, but it never towed until I bought it (there were no lights, or controller, or even scratches inside the hitch reciever).
Anyway, it's the loaded LT model...power everything, leather, rear air, third seat, keyless entry, etc. It's dot a nice Kenwood Sirius deck in it, and I'll keep paying the Sirius for 3 months as a bonus for whoever buys it (the speakers are the OEM crap though, so be warned). The only thing I can think of that doesn't work is the power door lock buttons on the door handles. The keyless entry locks and unlocks the truck fine, so it can't be too major...I never bothered to fix it.
As far as what it needs...it will need tires in the next 10,000 miles, and I'd probably put new wiper blades on it. That's all I can think of. I put a new battery in it last year, and replaced the rear trans seal when it leaked about 15,000 miles ago. Also I replaced the serpentine belt tensioner because it started squeaking (belt too). That's all the work I've had to do to it.
Oh, and when I got it the headlights were cloudy, so I replaced them with some clear lens jobbers off Ebay...work great, nice and bright.
I towed my toy hauler to Indy and back for the GP trouble-free, and haven't driven it since. It's been a great truck, and if I weren't selling the toy hauler I wouldn't sell it.
The paint is good, except that the clear started flaking off the front of the roof and the hood a while back. For me this truck is a tool, so I didn't care about that. If you want to, I assume this can be fixed by a body shop.
1995 Suburban 2500 2WD
7.4L
Heavy duty tow package (big trans cooler, short gears, Class A hitch, etc.)
Prodigy brake controller
Kenwood Sirius deck
Leather
power seats and windows
cruise
New battery
blah blah blah
It's a big ass truck. There is not a better tow vehicle available for much under $10,000 IMO.
$2,950
I don't have any pics of it handy, but it looks exactly like a dark green 95 3/4 ton Suburban. I'll try to get some pics up soon.
