pretty cool where in CA you located?

I'm 3 hours from Willow Springs in Mentone, near San Bernardino.

I can fly to any track in North America or I can transport your bikes and you can fly.

Barber, VIR and Miller are such great tracks that you owe it to yourself to go there even if it means missing a few rides at a track near you. How cool would it be to show up at your dream track to find your bike waiting and ready to go in a comfortable pit set up?

I know it's very early, but do you have any plans to do any traveling out East with this service? I don't know what it would cost, but whatever it is, it seems like a sure bet that a hack club racer like me could really learn something from you. I know you mentioned flying to a race, but of course you wouldn't have your setup with you.

I'm asking because I'll have a new-to-me SV for next season, and because I'm a giant fatty I always have trouble getting bikes set up properly for me. Having professional help in that regard would be worth the cost, especially when added to other learning opportunities you're providing.

Also, would you be willing to have, say, 2 people pay for your services where we'd pit together and share you so to speak?

Yes, I expect to go out East a lot, that’s were most of the tracks are, I can be at your next race or track day anywhere. I’m offering a low introductory rate, as I build a customer base the price will rise.

Everyone is at a different level, has different stuff, different goals, different needs. We would make a plan based on your needs. From what I know of you, I would say you have a place to work on your bike and a nice pit set up. I recommend you come up with a bike that I can use, fly me in and we work out of your pit at a track day. We will also fine tune your pit set up. We can do this at a race but the schedule is more ridged and you will get less laps.

If I bring my rig we would work out of my pit and I can bring my 600 for lead/follow. I think the people who hirer me and my transporter will be looking to fly in and fly out because they don’t have enough time to drive. With my rig you will get the full factory treatment.

Either way, we will work on your riding with observation, lead/follow, debriefing and coaching. I will work on your bike making changes and adjustments as needed. If we are at a track day I will ride your bike for a few laps to save time. Trying to understand someone takes time, if I ride your bike, I will know what you are talking about. I recommend you bring a tape recorder. I will tell you more things than you can possibly remember in one day. If you record it you will be able to go back and get it all.

As to your new bike. Bike set up is just like riding, I’m going to teach you riding techniques, you will use them at any track. I will teach you how to set up and adjust your bike, you will use those techniques on any bike. I will teach you to fish, I will not give you a fish. Hire me now, apply the lessons now and to your next bike when you get it.

As to being a giant fatty. They make springs of all rates, all forks and shocks can be valued to match.

Two or more customers at a time is good by me. The rate for each extra person will be half of the first person. If the two of you take the total and divide it it’s a better deal for each, you would also be able to split the travel cost. You can add as many people as you like, understand that as the number goes up each person gets less time. I think two would be perfect. My rig is set up for two bikes.

Call or E mail for pricing.

Thanks for the feedback Ed. I'll be formulating a plan as we move to the off season. A friend and I have talked together about this type of thing a few times, so I think we might be able to come up with something.

Sounds like a great idea. 1 on 1 instruction from an experienced racer/wrench. Good luck with it Ed, if i had the cash i would be all over it. Maybe next year. I have stuff that needs to be worked on as well as my confidence.

Guys, if you think about how much you spend on tires, race gas, track time etc.....and then you think about how much time you will save and how much faster you will improve.....this will pay for itself easily. I don't even know Ed, just read bout him.....but I bet this is a steal.

Id like to do some rider coaching etc when Im done racing

The point is that you will spend this money and a lot more learning this stuff on your own. You have enough money to do track days and or race. This is just a way to spend the same money and get a greater benefit.

I understand that you are talking about d-wire’s lap times at Jennings.
I can help you do those times.
Fast lap times are the result of hard work in all parts of racing and our life’s. From the food we eat and how we manage our time to what bike we chooses and how we take care of it.
I offer a way to reduce those times with knowledge, understanding and plans.
Don’t dream about someone else’s lap times, reduce your own.

Dave, you would get a lot out of what Ed has to offer (I've seen his operation first hand!). He has a methodical and holistic approach. I never saw him get off a bike from practice or race without performing a full debrief and critique. He'll demand the best out of you and leave no avenue unexplored. Ed failed to mention that he also has starts down to a science (EdStart!). I'd say 9 times outta 10 in AMA pro races he'd get the holeshot.

quick plug, I met Ed during inagural Moto-St last year and being my first time in/on a team setting, he helped us out a lot and was a great person to have around. He was always very friendly and informative. I've read several articles by him from RRW and other places. I'm going to ask him to let me know when and if he comes to East coast anything he's got to say I'm willing to pay to listen. Just my .02, good luck Ed with your endeavours.

How much experience do you have setting up GSXR's???

Ed Sorbo
09-16-2008, 08:37 PM
My first GSXR was a ’90 750. I earned two #1 plates with it and never crashed it. Since then I’ll raced a number of GSXR’s of all sizes. Most recently I was Chris Ulrich’s Crew Chief for three years. Chris raced 600 Supersport, 1000 Superstock and 1000 Superbike GSXR’s that I built and or worked on.

Yesterday I had my first Personal Coach and Crew Chief customer. We were at Buttonwillow with Hypercycle Track Days. We had a good day and this customer booked me for two more events this year.

Thank you for asking.

Soooo.......If you think about it.......Buying your track day is actually a pretty good deal. If I understand this right you will end up with a day of totally undivided attention both on and off the track.
I know a guy in Napa that could use your help.

So would we have to book a track date at one of the tracks listed above, like with an organization such as FastTrack for example?

or do you have the hookup of it just being you and i on the track???

So, it's normal trackday expenses for everything usually involved, plus your fee up above?

sorry if they're dumb questions :o

Ed Sorbo
10-21-2008, 04:49 PM
HD 1911,
Here is my latest price list. I had to take the entry fee out of my base price because the fees are so different from track to track.

I can travel to any track. I made this list because these are the closest tracks to me.

I don't have a hook up that will get just us on the track.

$100 per travel day, plus $200 per work day, plus entry fees, plus travel costs, plus my bike tires and gas.

Send me an e mail with the track and date you want and I'll send you a price quote.

Ed

Local pricing for one day of coaching and crew chief at a track day:

Auto Club Speedway a.k.a California Speedway a.k.a. Fontana, $300 plus entry fee.
Willow Springs and Streets of Willow, $300 plus entry fee.
Buttonwillow, $400 plus entry fee.

Add $100 per extra person to a maximum of 4 people. If you add extra people you can share the cost but you will each get less time with me.

Entry fee is the cost of getting in the gate and into the track day so I can ride with you. If you don’t want me to ride you can save this fee and I can do more work on your bike. My tire bill will depend on how much lead/follow we do and how fast you are.

Other deals:

The cost for shop work from case packing and porting to geometry adjustments and full race prep is on a case by case basis. You can send me parts or the whole bike, or I can pick up and deliver.

This winter you may not be able to ride at home but your bike could be safe and warm in my shop in sunny California. Then you could fly down and meet your bike at the track.

All prices are subject to change.

I’m leaving from San Bernardino, CA for Daytona on Feb 14th. I’m taking the 10 and am making a four day stop at Jennings GP. I'll be at Daytona on the 25th. I have space in my trailer if someone needs transport for a bike and/or gear. You can deliver to me here or I can pick up on the way.

Ed, you are such a slut now. :D

Hey everybody, this guy is awesome, I watched him work and pulled all the free advice I could from him at Willow when I was racing a 250.

He is also really good at fixing stipped spark plug holes in your engine while your 8 1/2 month pregnant wife is waiting in the Socal heat!!;)

Best of luck with your program bro, and hope I will run into you someday, (in Georgia now) soon as I win the lottery, I'll hire you!

With the off season about to start, now is a good time to think about how to take your racing to the next level. One good way is to spend a day with me at a track day. We can work on your riding with some lead/follow. We can improve your bike set up and help you understand what is going on so that you can solve problems yourself. We can even make your pit set up look and work better.

I'm based in So CA and I'm driving to Daytona for the Oct. races. If you find a track day that works for you at a track near I-10 between CA and Daytona you can save on my travel costs.

Check out my first post on this thread to see what I offer.
