I bought a wrecked 2001 zx6r 2 years ago. I bought it from a guy that bought it from a tow yard. HE never changed the title over and either did i when i bought it (my stupidity) ! I have since then lost the title and have no way to get in touch with the guy i bought it from to see what the name of the tow yard is so that i can ask them to get me a duplicate. Im kinda stuck here and i really dont want to buy another frame cause this one has a clear title if i can just get another one issued. Does anyone have a clever way i can get the title to this thing again?

Do you own/work at a bike shop?
A mechanics lean would probably work, just claim a customer left it and you have $xxx amount invested in it, and its been 2 years and not paid for or picked up...I don't think there would be anybody to protest it...
If that doesn't work for some reason, you might be able to get an abandoned vehichle title for it as well...
Definately depends on the state you're in, but you've got a few options that might work...

try going to the dmv and explaining the situation, they might be able to run the VIN and tell you who you need to talk to about the title.

im sure i could get someone to do a mechanics lean. But how long would it take for the paperwork to go through. I had the #'s ran through my local SHeriffs office and he couldnt tell me anything except that it wasnt stollen. Well i knew that already!! As far as the DMV, here in Florida they dont want to do anything for you unless you have some kind of paperwork thats in your name or something pertaining to the vehicle. I do know it was a La. title though

Yea from my experience with the DMV, they wont tell you ANYTHING or even help out AT ALL whatsoever in finding a title or any info. Technically it is a violation of the freedom of information act privacy policy bullshit...
I literally was about to hop over the counter at the DMV one time, it is soo f'in frustrating when some kid at the DMV is staring at the name you need on his computer screen, the very name and adress that could save you months in your title search or is the only link to your bike title, but they won't give it to you...
