What bike where the wheels originally for? Is it a 180 rear? Can you send pics to kereams at comcast dot net.
Thanks

roadracer618: the photos I sent to your tdiaz address (@yahoo.com) bounced.
1anoney: I'll send pix in a minute.
CuStOm: I'll send pix in a minute. The wheels are forged magnesium Marchesinis originally sold for a GSXR & other bikes. The rear is a 180. Both wheels go on the bike w/o any obnoxious spacers or other fitment issues. Sprockets are GSXR, easy to get.

This is an awesome SV. I am still very interested in the wheels. You say they do not take a spacer on the rear, how was this done to accommodate a 5.5" wheel and what year/model bike was the wheel intended for?
Thanks!

CuStOM: Thanks for putting up those links!
Like I said, these were Sold for GSXRs & other bikes; what I meant by no "obnoxious" spacers are that the spacers on the rear are captive in the seals, & don't become a PITA every time you change tires like some mix & match wheel setups. In front the Ohlins fork uses a sleeve in the left fork leg that recieves the axle and serves a spacer. That sleeve is machined to the correctly center the wheel.

No problem on the pics....should make things easier. :)
If, for some crazy reason, you end up parting this thing out (might get more money quicker) I got first dibs on the wheels/spacers! :) Maybe the forks and brakes too. :)
Good luck with the sale.
Cheers

So you had no problems bolting up a GSXR marchesini to the rear? Reason why I ask is I have access to a few sets of 16.5 from the 2000-2003 generation GSXR

Nice looking bike but are you quite sure about the TWO hundred eighty five pounds. That is drastically lighter than any SV that I have ever seen. Mine was similarly equipped to yours and weighed 353lbs w/a gallon of gas on the FUSA scales. Still, a very attractive bike my friend.

About the weight: I was pretty shocked when I weighed it too. I have weighed other bikes in the same manner, with the same scale, and came up with perfectly reasonable numbers in the past, so there's no reason to distrust the scale or method . . . take the weight with a grain of salt perhaps, but rest assured it is a very light bike.
Keep in mind that it has magnesium wheels, a tiny battery, aftermarket subframe, minimal bracketry & instumentation, reduced wiring harness, lightened crank, lighter rods, no alternator, etc, etc. The attack triples and the Ohlins forks are probably lighter than the part they replace . . . it all adds up. (or down).

I did not build the bike originally, but don't see that it could have been much trouble, just make the proper spacers.

OK, several people have been interested but haven't quite done the deal, so I decided I needed to do something to make this bike irresistible to someone:
I have a spare set of Marchesini wheels for this bike, with Galfer Rotors up front and a lightened rear like the one on the bike in the photos.
I had hoped to keep these for whatever bike I get next, but the truth is they might not be useful to me, and they are set up for this bike so I might as well offer them.
SO there it is: $6000 with all parts previously listed and a set of spare wheels too!

Yeah, I KNOW I can sell the wheels . . . or the forks. . . or the clutch . . . It's a big stack of desirable parts. that's the point. You'd think someone would want all those parts bolted together into one motorcycle.
(OK, not all four wheels at once)

You would think but the reality of the situation is that for one Saturdays worth of work tearing the bike apart the sum of your parts will bring you much more money and much quicker. It's just the way these things go.
My offer still stands, I need lightweight wheels for an SV. :D

People just dont get it. The guy is not stupid, he realizes he could part the bike out. If he decides to, he will, then im sure he will let you know. If youre not intrested in the bike, then move along. I got all of this same stuff from people when I sold my SV superbike, it had a few more trick parts on it here and there but was missing the triples, plus a spare motor and tons of spares, first guy who looked at it bought it for 8000, my asking price. Just hang on if you can, just need to find the right buyer, they are out there.

I couldn't sell mine for $7k back in '04, decided to part her-made $3k here in a few hours, rest of bike was sold off in 30 days and netted me $8k-covering my labor and crying while I parted her.
If you saw my Duc now and the setup-never get what I have into it-it would have to go the same route
Great looking, running bike AND 2 sets of Marchesini's.....for $6K!!!????
Killer Deal....and TTT for the twins!
Will someone please buy this bike before I have to tell my daughter she will need hold off on the braces so I can get another race bike :wow:

am interested in bike but live in fla, any idea on dyno numbers for bike, what weight rider is bike set up for any idea on longevity of a motor with this kind of work?

The bike was originally set up for someone heavier than I am, I am the 2nd owner. I weigh 170 plus gear, and was able to get the sag numbers I wanted out of both ends. I am running the forks with zero preload, I believe they have 9NM springs in them. I don't know the spring rate on the Penske.
The engine should be pretty reliable, it's built with stock heads & 650cc displacement because the prior owner had had experience blowing up 95hp motors and wanted something that would last. The light rods & crank, no alternator and the slipper clutch all combine to reduce stresses at high rpms and when shifting down through the gears into a corner. The manual cam chain tensioners are extra insurance.
I do not have dyno numbers, there's not a dyno in my area that I trust. My butt says it makes around 82-85. Folks with more SV tuning experience can tell you if that sounds right. I do know I was able to podium and run near the front in the MRA lightweight twins class, so it's got the power it needs.

Yeah, no shit. From the pics, that's a very very clean looking bike, and from the description, it's well put together.
It'd be blasphemy to part that thing out. DON'T DO IT!
A lot of people race these bikes, and for what you're asking, nothing can touch the cost/benefit. List it on other sites. You'll sell it.

Does anyone know if I can edit the original "for sale" post at the top of this thread? I don't seem to have the option to do that any more, and I'd like to add the second set of Marchesinis to the parts list so anyone new who comes along will know about them.
Thanks!
