View Full Version : Tach/Speedo cluster on track bike?

I have begun the task of building a "track only" bike(05 SV) over the winter..

I have removed the entire OE front fairing and OE tach/speedo cluster. I am left with a huge glob of wiring...

I would prefer to get rid of all this wiring. Do I really need the tach/speedo?

Thanks.

I use a tach...some folks feel that a shift light is enough, others run nothing. My personal recommendation is to use a tach.

+1 on using a tach, also since I have had heating issues in the past a temp sensor is a must too.

I have a Mychron 4 on both of my bikes, it has a tach with a shift light, a temp guage, programable hot light, and a IR lap timer, easy to read the tach scale is programable also so it will read the first mark at say 8,000 and the last mark at redline, so a quik glance to see if the tach has any bars showing will tell you if you are in your motors powerband

I personally feel every machine (be it car or bike) should have something resembling a tachometer as well as a shift indicator.

A shift-light lets you accelerate without focusing on the tachometer, whereas a tachometer gives you a quick reference for downshifting (so as to know when to downshift, and to prevent over-revving).

A speedometer wouldn't hurt, though...

(neither would a gear indicator)

Don't forget the clock. It's always nice to know what time it is. ;)

It couldn't hurt :)

(well, that or a lap timer...)

+1 on Mychron4. I have 1 on my 1st gen SV. Love it. You get a lot for not a lot of $;)
